  • i read an interesting article on cnn yesterday:
    http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/08/04/segregated.sundays/index.html

basically it talks about the segregation of the Church and how it is difficult to have an interracial/intercultural church. personally, i go to a church that's pretty much 100% one culture. the reason for that is because our church is in our native language and it would be difficult for anyone to understand the sermon. (we do, however, have two members who are not the same culture as us.) anyway, the question is: is it wrong to have churches that are of one race? are we hindering the furthering of God's kingdom by segregating our churches?

By no means is it wrong to have a church that speaks one language.  By no means is it wrong to have only one culture in your church.  It is healthy to have a multi-cultural church - but it is also challenging to keep the unity, because of racial and cultural pride.  In is not possible in every situation for the church to be multi-cultural, just for mere geographical reasons.

What is more important is to teach against racial and cultural arrogence where one race or culture thinks itself to be better than all others.  (There is a lot of this cultural arrogence in my American culture).  So, a church should be welcoming of all races and cultural people.  That doesn't mean that churches have to speak every language.  The important thing is to be unified under the cross of Jesus Christ, and love eachother as brothers and sisters in Christ.
